Image © yrfarchitect.comThe taupe and beige colors are definitely the most noticeable ones in this 70s exterior makeover project. Compared to the earlier look, the house looks bolder but still has a cozy and welcoming impression. Image © yrfarchitect.comSometimes, an exterior makeover done to a 70s house is also completed with addition and extension for various reasons.
This makeover proves that small changes can have a big impact. This home's midcentury modern charm was buried under years of neglect. The landscaping was overgrown and layers of dirt covered the facade.
After: Welcoming Home Exterior
Later, landscape architect Aaron Adolph of NOLA + Design refined the plan. Stocky windows, a boring entrance, and a gloomy gray-and-black paint palette gave this cottage a lackluster look. Image © reversearchitecture.comIn the addition process, a suspended prism from glass and steel material was added.
You won't believe your eyes when you see the new home exterior design. Making the garden both formal and functional topped Alexis' list. A parterre garden was the key to fitting it all within the postage-stamp-size front garden. Pruned 'Savannah' hollies near the street add height and screening.
Classic Georgia Bungalow: Before
A case like this is the one that you can find in the example above. The last but not least exterior makeover that was done to this house is related to the driveway and landscape design. A new lawn exists between it and the driveway, too, adding a refreshing touch to the home exterior. From the updated second floor design, we can also notice that the glass styling is different now, although the window placement is still the same.
Talking about the window, there is a very interesting new detail after the makeover at the attic part. It is related to the fact that the dormers there get new gable roofs. It significantly enhances the style value of the home exterior. Image © digdesign.net.auNow take a look at the new rear after the makeover. It is stunning and totally rejuvenated, with the covered porch and the small swimming pool at the side as the main stars. The horizontal siding on the second floor is still the same, but the color is new.
Fabulous Whole Makeover to A1970s Traditional Brick Home Exterior
Image © retro-fit-design.comAfter the project, you can see some significant differences in the home design. When talking about the types of ranch house addition project, we can try to see it from two points of view. The first is related to the position, and the second is to the purpose. Some iconic characteristics that we can notice from the ranch house style are the larger size of the lot, the spacious floor plan, and the solid construction.

An extensive renovation helped the small home better serve the family and fit in with its surroundings. Easy-to-climb shallow stairs to the porch are designed in an ever-widening cascade. The steps are formed from all-weather composite lumber; the porch decking is ipe, a Brazilian wood prized for its durability. Working with the hard material was a challenge for their tools, John says.
After: Pretty Porch Makeover
The first is the wall that is no longer grey brick but is finished and gains a new warm white color. The porch was replaced with a more traditional Arts and Crafts-style entry that stayed true to the home's Asian roots. The lantern, door, wood posts, and shape of the roof—constructed of a lightweight slate-look rubber-and-fiberglass material—complement the home's style.

A dated color scheme obscured much of the character of this small home. Overgrown landscaping also contributed to the neglected look. A few simple but thoughtful changes allowed the charming exterior to shine. This small brick home had some interesting features, but no distinct personality. Standard-issue brick and minimal landscaping left the Cape Cod with little curb appeal. The door and shutters seemed out of scale with the rest of the structure.
The entry was scrunched into a cramped alcove and upstaged by the garage. You might not even recognize the finished look after this brick house exterior makeover. See how a humble ranch received a major boost in curb appeal.
He saw opportunitiy for creating unique spaces for gardening and outdoor living. Todd removed the offending azaleas in front to give better access to the door and the updated terrace. The level front lawn just steps away from the terrace became a new play space for the family's young kids.
